Press release

Munich, July 06, 2018 – Diabetes is a widespread condition affecting several hundred million people worldwide with numbers also rapidly climbing in Asia. Every year, approximately 500.000 patients are newly diagnosed in Germany alone. As a chronic disease, diabetes requires consistent and precise monitoring to prevent potentially severe consequences.

As an exclusive forum for discussing the impressive speed of innovation in the field of diabetes care, goetzpartners and leading European healthcare investment firm LSP have partnered to cast a spotlight on clinical and corporate developments as well as investment opportunities. The First Munich Investor Healthcare Conference gathered 50 prominent institutional investors and some of the largest German family offices as well as thought leaders in diabetes research.

Dr. Jörg Neermann, Partner at LSP, opened the event and explained: “Diabetes is a condition almost everyone in the Western world is aware of. We have chosen to focus on diabetes to offer a platform for the solutions created by innovative companies to relieve the burden many patients suffer from and to connect outstanding inventors with the right investors to further advance these innovations.” Providing an outlook for the indication area, Ulrich Kinzel, Managing Director at goetzpartners, said: “Diabetes care is rapidly evolving from disease management to precision medicine, driven by innovations such as continuous glucose monitoring as well as breakthrough digital solutions and algorithms supporting and protecting patients. With the ultimate objective of curing patients from diabetes with novel immune and cell therapies this disease area offers a wide range of opportunities for investors.”

In this regard, the conference featured key note speeches from academic and industry experts as well as accounts from biotech and medtech innovators presenting novel devices, therapeutic approaches and digital solutions created to simplify life with diabetes. The game-changing products presented ranged from a continuous blood glucose monitoring device using a fiber optic sensor to a connected insulin patch pump. During networking breaks, participants used the chance to exchange their perspectives with the thought leaders.

On all levels, the First Munich Investor Healthcare Conference delivered a valuable contribution to fostering the connection between healthcare investors and innovative solution providers that will drive the future of optimal care in diabetes.
