24. April 2017

Press release

Dubai, 24th April, 2017 – Reinforcing goetzpartners’ links with the annual Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit in the Middle East region, Erik Almqvist, Managing Director and Head of Middle East business at the Dubai office of goetzpartners, moderated a panel session, discussing the type of infrastructure that will be needed to drive digital transformation. The 2017 summit was held on April 20 in Beirut, Lebanon. The panel was Erik’s second time as a moderator for Telecom Review Summit, following the Leaders Panel at Telecom Review Summit December 2016 in Dubai.

Now in its eighth year, the Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit is amongst the largest C-level industry gatherings in the Middle East region. It consistently brings together leaders from the ICT sector and governments from all over the world to debate the emerging trends and developments that are setting the agenda in the telecommunications industry both in the Middle East region and worldwide. Commenting on the event, Toni Eid, – CEO of Telecom Review, says: “At the 8th edition of Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit, we have witnessed very important debates and lectures with our leaders who come from several countries with their experience and expertise. Our summit is always about sharing ideas, knowledge and opinions in order to help shape the future together.”

Framed by the event’s slogan “It’s All About Smart Networking”, the sessions at the summit conference investigated the potential effects of such developments on people’s lives. The 2017 edition, a one-day conference, explored wide-ranging “impact” issues, including a look at how technologies such as 5G connectivity and the IoT are affecting daily lives; cyber-security and the impact for privacy and data regulation, as well as the role of telecoms operators in making their networks smarter.

Panel debate on future infrastructure needs

The panel moderated by Erik Almqvist was at the heart of the debate, and brought together eminent leaders from both the government sector and telecoms operators. Its topic – future infrastructure for digital transformation – investigated the constraints and imperatives surrounding infrastructure as countries and cities move towards greater digital transformation: fiber to the home (FTTH), the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G connectivity, and also the need for regulation. The panel also explored data growth projections, as well as discussing the level of investment that operators and governments could be expected to make in new technology generations. Erik Almqvist says: “Striking the right balance between investment incentives and competition will be crucial for the Middle East economies. With a wide spread between leading and lagging nations in ICT development, the right policy choices have never been more important.”
