Munich, 17 March 2015 – goetzpartners, advisory firm for strategy, M&A and transformation, has appointed Markus Schmid as Co-Head of the company's "Telecommunications, Media and Technology" division. Schmid is already a Managing Director at goetzpartners in its "Restructuring & Post Merger Integration" division. From 1 April 2015 he will also head up the TMT Team in Munich. "Markus Schmid is at home in this industry. He has himself spent many years in the senior management of telecommunications and media companies and has over 15 years of experience as an adviser under his belt," said Managing Partner Stefan Sanktjohanser. "I am certain that in these challenging times he will help our TMT clients to develop even further, both in themselves and in economic terms."
During his career as an adviser, 49-year-old Markus Schmid has worked with numerous leading TMT companies, including Nokia Siemens Network (now Nokia Networks), Premiere (now SKY), Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica/O2, Unity Media, Swisscom, Red Bull Media House, HTC, Sony and TomTom. The media and telecommunications expert specializes in advising clients on digital transformation, development of new business models, customer life-cycle management, and profitability programmes.
Markus Schmid joined goetzpartners in 2000 as a partner in the "Consumer Goods & Retail" division. In January 2004 he left the company to take over the management of Premiere Fernsehen GmbH (now SKY Deutschland), and in October 2004 was appointed to the Board of Premiere AG (now SKY Deutschland AG). From 2007 to 2009 Schmid was CEO and President of Tele Columbus and CEO and Chairman of the Board of listed company Primacom AG. Before Schmid returned to goetzpartners in 2012, he was management board member and joint owner of PACT AG, one of the largest owner-operated communications agencies in Germany, where for three years he was responsible for the restructuring of the company and for its telecommunications and media clients.
