Energy
Situation
The Energy industry is a mixture of monopoly-like (local grids), oligopoly-like (power generation in Germany) and extremely fragmented (municipal utilities) markets. Due to new policies, regarding e.g. the climate and the environment many new topics have arisen in the last five years, all of which will change market and business logics fundamentally.
Trends and Challenges
Overall there are multiple mega trends within the energy industry. From incentive regulation (“Anreizregulierung”) especially for municipal utilities, to innovative topics as e.g. E-Mobility for international utilities such trends introduce a broad range of both challenging and interesting areas for these companies. Another major topic is the future of power produced from a mixture of different energies. There is today a noticeable split between power produced in conventional power plants and power produced by renewable energies. Irrespective of the origin of energy supplies – the oil, gas and refining industries have to find new sources and facilitate transportation if they are to keep up with new market developments.
