02/01/2010 HDTV important opportunity for increased competition on the TV market

65% of the German viewers have a strong interest in HDTV offers. This has been proven by a survey carried out by the consulting company goetzpartners. The strong interest of the viewers will lead to more and more offers from TV broadcasting stations and therefore more choice for the viewer at competitive prices. Only TV and TV infrastructure players with comprising and best-price HDTV offers will gain competitive advantages and increase their market shares.

In September and October 2009, goetzpartners conducted a representative survey among Germans aged between 14 to 69 years. There was a clear indicator that 65% of the participants are interested in high-resolution offers. In addition, the survey showed that there are currently 19 million HD- capable TV sets in German households, which confirms the high interest in this new technology: "64% of survey participants even would be prepared to switch from a traditional TV infrastructure supplier to an IPTV supplier because of the availability of HDTV offers", Dr Alexander Henschel, Managing Director with goetzpartners Management Consultants, explains.
