This initiative seeks to preserve one of the last and largest rainforests (220,000 km2) still existing in the heart of Borneo. The remaining framework of nature, which is still intact, needs to be conserved as it is very important for the provision of local water supply and the equilibrium of the climate, as well as for the protection against hurricanes, floods, erosions, and decontamination of the water supply. The population should be offered viable alternatives to earn a living, other than the through the destruction of woodlands brought about by the selling of wood to industrialised nations. One such alternative source of income is from eco-tourism. goetzpartners supports important projects in the Heart of Borneo initiative of WWF.
